The Missing Piece
For some students, letters, sounds and reading need to be taught in a sequential, explicit, multi sensory way.
I build on each student's strengths and create a space where they feel safe taking risks and celebrating progress, growing in skill and in confidence.
My teaching follows a Structured Literacy approach using the Wilson Reading System method, in which skills are taught explicitly, step by step, and built on over time.
How We Begin
Every student starts with an initial assessment. I look at current strengths and challenges with sounds, word reading, spelling, and passage reading (fluency, accuracy, and comprehension).
After the initial assessment I will meet with both the parents and the student to review the results and let them know where we will begin our instruction.
Next Steps
We will work through each substep in the Wilson program, gaining mastery in both reading and spelling for all taught skills. At the end of each step in the program, I will administer and End of Step Assessment. Parents will be updated via email after every two sessions and will see the results of the End of Step Assessment.
